We are the cooks, dishwashers, and food servers who prepare and serve your food everyday on college campuses, in airports, convention centers, hotels and restaurants.
We are proud of our work and want to cook real food – with local, fresh, sustainable ingredients – not processed and frozen products. We want to speak out about the quality and safety of the food in our kitchens without fear of retaliation from employers. We want to change a food system that leaves our fellow food workers living in poverty, lacking access to healthy food for their families and at the highest risk for diet-related diseases.
Rampant growth is often perceived as a good thing. This book advocates for sufficiency. Will be buying it today - the library didn’t have it.

I’ve wondered about the connection between indie rock and indie food long before I posted the previous entry about Laura Ann. A friends says it makes sense - we all went to shows together and stayed out late when we were younger, so now we want to stay out not-so-late and have great meals with those same friends. And naturally we want to work in that business if we can.
I think there’s truth to that - we are running farmers markets, repping chefs, making jam and pizza and chocolate and more, and are in positions of relative power at food-related businesses - but there’s more to it.
The young farmers, textile artists, soapmakers, etc - I’m paying attention.
